Fingrid rakensi Kalantiin uuden Uudenkaupungin 110 kV avokytkinaseman, sillä aikaisemman Kalannin aseman laitteet olivat käyttöikänsä lopussa.

Hankeen maanrakennustyöt tehtiin kevään ja kesän 2018 aikana. Asemaurakan rakennustyöt tehtiin vuoden 2018 loppuun mennessä ja asennustyöt olivat valmiina kesällä 2019. Uusi sähköasema otettiin käyttöön vaiheittain heinä-syyskuussa 2019.

Maanrakennustöistä vastasi Länsi-Suomen Maarakennus Oy ja sähköasemaurakasta vastaa Eltel Networks Oy. Alueella toimi myös voimajohtojärjestelyurakointia tekevä Destia Oy.
 
Sähköaseman kustannusarvio oli noin 3,7 miljoonaa euroa.
